How Love and Truth Can Cast Out Evil

Evil exists. I have seen the face of it. But just like you and me, it needs food to survive. Its food is fear. The more fear generated in the world, in our everyday lives, in our communities, in our governments, the bigger and fatter evil becomes. Now, through a media-fueled fear of an invisible virus, the potential for evil to take over the world has become so monstrous it threatens to devour us all.

Since I have learned from personal experience that fear provokes anger, which can lead to evil acts, let me tell you what evil looks like, face-to-face.

Many years ago at the end of a group counseling session I was conducting in my home, a male member of the group I will call ‘Karl’, complained of stomach pain and was lying on the floor. He had come to the counseling session upset after seeing a woman he liked with another man. He had the false belief that the love of a woman would heal all his childhood wounds that still festered within him, as is apparent in the following drawing he did, depicting himself as a ghost-like figure chained to his past, with what he desired in color on the right. In the distance, in front of the rising sun, is a woman who loves him. With a rainbow near what looks like a church, there appears to be hope of getting married and living ‘happily ever after.’

At the end of the group session, and after the others had left, I intended to do some hands on healing to ease Karl’s pain. Instead, to my surprise, I challenged him about why he was so angry. This had the effect of poking a snake with a stick, for his body jerked suddenly to life and he began slithering on his back from my lounge into the kitchen where, still on the floor, he opened a drawer looking for a knife to kill us both.

When I slammed the drawer shut with my foot, he banged his fist hard onto my other foot and I heard myself say, as if someone else was speaking through me, “There is nothing you can do that will hurt me.” A torrent of abusive words spewed from his mouth and he tried to get up off the floor, but his arms became locked across his body as if held by an invisible straight jacket.

Panicked by this, he kicked out with his feet on the lino floor, his polished shoes leaving black streaks across it while he writhed, as if with an invisible enemy. Then his normal voice returned and he exclaimed, “Why am I saying these awful things when you have done so much to help me?” Immediately another voice cut in, muttering obscenities, and what he would like to do to hurt me. One thing I still remember was that he wanted to pull my pubic hair, but pulled at his own instead, causing his face to grimace in pain and anger. Back and forth these voices went for a seemingly interminable time while I calmly observed him and tried to converse with the voice I knew belonged to him. 

I recalled how M. Scott Peck, who wrote People of the Lie, described an exorcism in which he was involved, and how important a strong energy of love was in countering an evil spirit present in the person. He wrote:

“The patient suddenly resembled a writhing snake of great strength… More frightening than the writhing body, however, was the face. The eyes were hooded by a lazy reptilian torpor…”

The healing of evil – scientifically or otherwise – can be accomplished only by the love of individuals.

Did an evil spirit possess Karl? When I asked him to describe what was inside him and he said there was a dark shape there, I knew instinctively that it was probably an evil spirit. As I continued to observe Karl, I noticed that there was something pathetic and vulnerable about the way it contorted his face and distorted his voice, and prompted the empty threats Karl could not carry out.

I would learn later that this ‘evil spirit’ had been with Karl since he was three, when he spent many hours alone in his bedroom feeling unloved by both parents. This had grown into a fear that he was, in fact, unlovable. He was in his early thirties and had only had one brief sexual relationship with a woman when he was twenty, which lasted four months.

When he first came to see me he was so consumed with shame he mostly looked at the floor. Ever since his earliest memories his mother had said to him, “Geeze, you’re bloody useless.” His father had not wanted another child, which caused problems in the marriage after Karl was born. Growing up, he was expected to be a clone of his farmer father. However Karl was a sensitive child who wanted to learn to play the piano, but with this request denied, he taught himself to play guitar in his later teenage years when he could buy one for himself. The predominant companion for his entire childhood was loneliness.  It was the type of unbearable loneliness that the lack of love, and warmth, and caring brings.

Did this then create just the right conditions for an evil spirit to enter? I looked at Karl’s contorted face that made him look older than his years and had to answer ‘yes’.

Finally I asked Karl to command this dark shape leave him. He was reluctant to do this, and there followed a long struggle between two voices, one saying that he would, immediately countered by a cackling witch-like voice that said he wouldn’t, gleeful that I couldn’t make him do anything. Backwards and forwards this exchange went while the minutes ticked by and Karl squirmed on the floor like a serpent that had been mortally wounded. Finally after great struggle Karl gained the upper hand and, with his face flushed by the struggle he said forcefully, “I command you leave me!”

Instantly he spoke these words Karl was released from his invisible straight jacket and he rolled over onto his side and curled up into a fetal ball on the lino floor, sobbing and shaking uncontrollably.

The following morning he rang around six and said that he had been up all night, distraught about all the things he had said to me. “I would have killed you,” he wanted me to know, adding: “if you had shown one shred of fear.” I told him I knew that, and I had been guided as to what to do.

When Karl came to my next group counseling session, for the first time he was able to look the others in the eye when he spoke, and he laughed and was very jovial. The group members were astonished, and curious to know what I had ‘done’ to him. A few weeks later Karl told me that when he went to his chiropractic session – something that he had been doing for ten years because of lower back pain – his back did not need adjusting, and he remained pain free for the rest of the time he attended group counseling.

What I learned from this is that there is something deeply pathetic about someone controlled by the forces of evil, and even those who have made a pact with the devil, as one of my other clients had done. His pact with the devil was to “live a life of hate.” He was deeply unhappy and had originally come to see me about the problem he had trying to fit into society and his inability to relate to others. He described it as living behind a veil, which prevented him from reaching through to interact with the people who came into his life. After admitting he had made a pact with the devil, he cancelled his next appointment and did not return.

It seems to me now that there is an energy of evil currently trying to take over the world. Dr. Dietrich Klinghardt gave a talk in Germany last year in which he said:

If one were to be mean…if I want to bring humankind down to its knees, then I would just spray all your food with glyphosate. I would pollute the air with aluminium, and if that is not enough, then I would add some more aluminium to all the vaccine substances. And in this way I would be able to make all of you dumb, and I would have you all die out in two to three generations. What I would need to achieve that would be certain electromagnetic call (?) frequencies, which I need to deactivate the enzymes that detoxify the body, as these are exactly the frequencies that reach us through the cell phone waves. If I were a bad person, I would say, behind all this there needs to be a group of very, very evil scientists and politicians.

Gene Wheaton, a whistle blower for the Iran/Contra affair, has seen this evil face-to-face within the cabal currently trying to take over the world and establish their New World Order. This is how he described them in an interview with Matt Ehling:

This crowd really believes that the unwashed masses are ignorant, that we are people who are not capable of governing ourselves, that we need this elitist group to control the country, and the world – these guys have expanded. They look at the United States not as a country, not in any kind of patriotic mode now, but they look on it as a state within a world that they control. And that’s this attitude that they have. They’re not unlike any other megalomaniac in the world. They’re nutty as fruitcake, but they’ve got distinguished gray hair, three-piece dark suits and they carry briefcases, and they’ll stand up and make speeches just as articulate as anybody in the world, but they don’t socialize and function outside their own little clique. My experience with them is that they could be certified as criminally insane and put away in a rubber room and have the key thrown away. That’s how dangerous they are. But they’re powerful, and they’re educated. And that makes them twice as dangerous. And that’s basically what’s running the world right now.

And he is right. I will expand on this in future articles. But for now it is enough to know that those in positions of power who think evil thoughts and commit evil acts have an intimate knowledge that fear is the most powerful way to control the masses.

My belief now is that by loving ourselves and others enough to release our fears we can overcome evil by exposing the truth underlying the evil acts committed. By developing the courage to face this evil instead of feeding it with fear, we can protect ourselves from it with truth and love for our self, our family, our community, our country, and the earth upon which we live. And yes, our love for God as well.

However, at this point in time, collectively we are too entrenched in fear to cast out the evil in the world, and anger and division has diminished love, enabling evil to gain a vice-like grip on the world and everything in it. It is an act of profound love to commit ourselves to face fear by finding the truth and exposing the lies that have created our current situation. If enough of us can share truth through love, we can break evil’s vice-like grip and restore peace and harmony in the world. This is the most difficult task any one person can ever hope to accomplish. It is an act of love that runs deep. And our survival as a human species capable of extending ourselves in love depends upon the success of such a noble endeavor.
